SCENIC DRIVES & WILDLIFE VIEWINGScenic Drives and Day Trips.A number of major roadways converge in Hope:
This makes Hope an ideal starting point for scenic drives. Hope is aptly named the "Gateway to Holiday Land" Hope is centrally located as a 2.5 hour drive from Vancouver on the coast and a further 3 hour drive leads to sunny Kelowna in the Okanagan Interior. Hope is also situated on route to Banff and Jasper in the Rocky Mountains. The U.S. border is only 100km from Hope via the Trans Canada Hwy.1 Tony's Favorite Drive:Old growth forest and alpine meadows: Scenic tourRound trip driving time from Mountainview Bed and Breakfast: a leisurely 3 hours. Step 1: Depart from Mountainview Bed and Breakfast and drive east along Hwy. 3. View stop at Sumallo Grove. Follow a short interpretive trail that is also wheelchair accessible. View magnificent stands of Coastal Cedars in a west coast old growth forest. Step 2: Continue on to Manning Provincial Park headquarters and visit tranquil Lightning Lake. The park has a series of 3 lakes beginning with Lightning Lake. It is a beautiful spot with picnic tables to rest and relax or perhaps rent a canoe, kayak or mountain bike. Walking paths surround all three lakes. Step 3: Continue your drive along a paved road to the Cascade Lookout to view the sub alpine meadows. These meadows are usually in full bloom in late July. Driving an additional 6 km. on a good gravel road brings you to the top from where several walks or hikes begin. Bring your camera and watch for wildlife such as black bears, Mule deer, Hoary marmots and Pikas. Step 4: Return to Mountainview Bed and Breakfast for an evening on the patio. Joyce's Favorite Drive:Yale-Hell's Gate: Historic and wildlife view point tourRound trip driving time from Mountainview Bed and Breakfast: a leisurely 3 hours. Step 1 Depart from Mountainview Bed and Breakfast and drive west and north on Hwy.1 to Yale and the Fraser Canyon. Visit the historic Yale museum and relive the history of the town. Yale in its heyday was the largest city north of San Francisco and west of Chicago. It is now a sleepy little town surrounded by incredible mountains through which the mighty Fraser River winds its way to the Pacific Ocean. Step 2: Continue 10 km north of Yale to the famous viewpoint: Hell's Gate. Hell's Gate is a 175-meter deep canyon in the Fraser River squeezed into a 38-meter gorge. The water is incredibly fast flowing especially in the spring run off and is a sight you'll never forget. Watch for wildlife on the cliffs above and to the north of Hells Gate; mountain goats often frequent this area. Step 3: Continue a few kilometres north of Hells Gate to North Bend, Boston Bar and Lytton. These areas are the departure points for several white water rafting companies. Daily tours and excursions are available. Step 4: Return to Mountainview Bed and Breakfast for an evening on the patio. Other scenic road trips
