way with magnificent mountain views all the way up. Watch out for bears
In spring and early summer! I do this ride several times per week and
I am happy to accompany riders.
Other Mountain Biking Tours:
Manning Park: Easy to moderate
The mountain bike trails in Manning Park in summer are cross-country
ski trails in winter and are of varying degrees of difficulty and
distance.
There are easy rides for the beginner such as the Lone Duck and Lightning
Lake trail and more advanced single-track trails for the intermediate
and technical rider. The South Gibson and North Gibson loop trail is
very popular.
Windy Joe: Moderate to advanced
The Windy Joe trail is a 7.5-kilometer trail up to Windy Joe Mountain.
Monument 83 is a very challenging 16 km mountain bike ride all the way
to the U.S. border. The views of the Pasayten Wilderness and Hozameen
mountains are spectacular and make the long climb worthwhile.
Kettle Valley Railway Trail: Easy
Probably the best well-known mountain bike trail around Hope and Sunshine
Valley is the Kettle Valley Railway Trail. It is an old abandoned railway
bed turned into a hiking and mountain biking route. The Kettle Valley
Railroad (KVR) stopped operating in 1989 and the tracks were ripped up
in the early 1990’s. The KVR at one time consisted of 477 kilometres
of tracks from Midway in the Interior to Hope on the coast. The trail
can be accessed at several points along the way. Most riders prefer the
downhill ride from the Coquihalla tollbooth to the historic Othello tunnels.
These tunnels received certain fame with the filming of the movie First
Blood with Sylvester Stallone.
